Metal Gear?!

I am, unabashedly, a huge Metal Gear Fan. The series is easily one of my most favorites. I got in on the series about 1998 with the release of the first Metal Gear Solid on the PS1. It was a great game, but it wasn't till Metal Gear Solid 2 on the PS2 that I became a true fan of the series. Since then, I have sought out just about eveything with the name Metal Gear on it. Even things merely REFERENCED in them I sought out. (Calorie Mates are not the best thing since sliced bread, I will have you know.) Up to this very day while I eagerly anticipate the release of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection later this year. This will be the fourth time I've purchased MGS2 and 3, and the second time I've purchased Peace Walker. And I look forward to them as much each time.

Anyone who has followed me over time will know I am fond of two things: Analysis and Re-imagining. While Metal Gear is more than fitting for the former, I feel more like focusing on the latter at this moment.

Metal Gear fans are well aware that the series did not begin with Solid in the title. The series first launched on the MSX with the initial Metal Gear. Since then, these tales have been referenced time and again. (Being retconned more each time) By this point the tales have barely any connection to the Solid series outside a bare idea. With Solid Snake's story officially ending with MGS4, many fans seem to be clamoring for a further adventure. The notion of going back to the first games are one of the more popular ideas. Others find it a pointless notion. Even Hideo Kojima himself doesn't seem to be so interested in the notion. I happen to be fond of the idea myself.

Now, there is one thing I have noticed in all the talk of wanting a remake. People don't know what the hell they want. I hear silly ideas all the time like combining the first two missions into one game and how horrible the old games names and such were. I don't subscribe to this at all. Better, I am JUST the sort of person who will tell you EXACTLY what I want to see. Much like my G.I.Joe Movie outline, I'm doing the same thing with Metal Gear. In the next few days I will post the first one which is based upon the initial Outer Heaven Revolt alone. It is five "chapters" long and seeks to bring the first tale up to the standards of the Solid series. It is not a script, only an outline but provides MORE than enough for you to see what I see. So, If you find yourself curious how a Metal Gear geek envisions the first mission of Solid Snake, or are raring to tear apart a little game fantasy, do come back and have a look. I promise you wont regret it.
