My Fellow Geeks, Help Marvel Return Home

Before I get started on this particular ramble, I would like to note that I have zero expectations of it happening, but still, one must try.

We Comic Book Geeks and the mainstream audience itself too stand upon a precipice. With Both Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America the Winter Soldier coming soon we are deep into the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 2. Both of these movies seem to be a decently entertaining time and build upon this new Universe Marvel is crafting in the theaters. Growing and expanding, bringing our favorite characters out into the world at large more than ever before. Now, I cannot claim to be pleased with ALL of Marvel's choices in their efforts, but at the very least they have as much passion for these things as many of us do. Their efforts are quite clear and while DC and Warner Bros. are pathetically stumbling around, trying to make any excuse to not build an even halfway decent DC Cinematic universe in turn, Marvel is taking some interesting risks and, if they prove fruitful will bring about a rather interesting new period in film.

With Guardians of the Galaxy in particular, the success of this movie will pave the way for... well, pretty much ANY movie Marvel wishes to make from its roster of heroes and villains. More so, it will also bring about other studios scrambling to produce ANY batshit idea they can come up with, much as Star Wars ushered in the Space Opera Sci-Fi age of the 80s. Most of it was utterly terrible, but god damn was it an entertaining time with all manner of ridiculous ideas going through. Hollywood basically gave up and so have audiences. Everything now is safe, by the numbers and completely droll. But if a movie with a Talking Gun-Toting, Space Raccoon riding a sentient Tree Man is a hit, the sky is the limit as to how crazy studios will scramble to get in response. Hell, we've even got a FARSCAPE movie looking likely of all things. And I can guarantee you, that is in part a result of the excitement people seem to have about the Guardians. This is potentially a VERY good time to be a comic book fan, or Sci-Fi aficionado in particular.

But we, as fans and the audience have an opportunity to make it better. We are in a very unique position here with the various Marvel franchises and we can, in turn, shape the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make it even BIGGER. How? Well, that's simple... We can bring home the lost and miandering Marvel properties once and for all.

All it takes is three upcoming movies... or rather, all it takes is for three upcoming movies to tank. I of course speak of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Amazing Spider-Man 2 and the recently announced Fantastic Four reboot. All three of these were once the bread and butter of Comic Properties, and now after a chain of Middling to utterly disastrous movies, these three are now franchises to DREAD news of upcoming entries. All three of these upcoming movies have, more or less forced me to turn my back on franchises I once held dear with their bull. But, we keep getting more of this tripe, cause we keep paying for it. And, when once we lived in a Comic Movie drought and ANY movies based in our favorite franchises were worth something, this is crap we no longer have to take.

We now exist in a unique point where Marvel is knocking it out of the park time and again, while these hangers on limp along delivering dreck and expecting us to just shovel it into our mouths. But here's the thing, while in the past, not supporting out favorite franchises would mean death to any hopes of seeing them on the big screen. This is no longer true. What would happen if these movies tank NOW? Well, they would be sold right back to Marvel. YES. It's no longer a game of this or nothing. Marvel WANTS this properties back. they want to bring them into their cinematic universe. They want to bring us movies with a half decent chance of being watchable. The only thing stopping them is us, the audience. As long as we keep paying for these three properties, they will sit on them and keep churning out whatever half assed entry they need to hold onto them.  But if we the audience collectively say "nope" for them, allow them to tank, save our money and go see something else. They will drop these franchises like a bad habbit. Marvel will take them back and finally, the Marvel Cinematic universe can be whole with its' first family, webhead and mutant menace.

I know, what I'm asking is hard, especially with them dangling such tasty carrots before you. One of the most famous X-Men stories ever? The promise of an honest to god sinister Six movie?! I understand, it sounds SO tasty! But I beg of you, resist! Because we can have all that and MORE if Marvel can get these properties back. The Secret Wars? The New Fantastic four with hulk, wolverine, Spidey and Ghost Rider? Nevermind the individual stories such as an honest to goodness Coming of Galactus movie, The Skrull-Kree war, hell an actually THREATENING Dr. Doom! And any NUMBER of other crazy comic stories. Just name your favorite run and BOOM it's suddenly possible. And not only possible, but it has a chance of being an honest to goodness GOOD movie! But it will only happen if we finally just say NO to these crappy movies Fox and Sony like to churn out.

These three movies are coming, and I know lots of people will go to see them, but we still have a chance to make a difference. Don't buy tickets, Don't pick up the DVDs, no matter how much the curiosity gets to you. Don't settle for these movies, don't settle for the hope of Fox and Sony making their own seperate abomination, or hoping they deal to bring them into the Marvel films. Let's just wipe the Slate clean and let Marvel themselves bring us their versions. Even if we need to sit through whole new origin movies, it will be worth it. Was the Avengers not worth the years of build up? Are these beloved properties not worth the best? Let the Sony and Fox money grabs die and from their ashes let a NEW Spidey, X-Men and FF rise when they return to marvel! (Much like the true Phoenix Saga we could get in turn...)

Let's all give our favorite Marvel franchises, and comic book movies in general a chance to thrive and let the pretenders whither and die. This is our chance! What do you say, fellow geeks and nerds? All you have to do is tell them no.
