Ninten-Do It!

With Shigeru Miyamoto asking Kotaku a bit ago what games fans would like to see, it got me thinking about the sort of games I'd like to see from Nintendo. For the most part, I'll stick with franchises owned by the big N as it would be rather random to just suggest my own ideas (Not that I couldn't come up with some nice Nintendo games, but that is for another day.)

So, lets begin, shall we?

Metroid Dread

A new 2.5D Metroid title would just warm the cockles of my geeky heart. Using the fabled "Lost" Metroid game title as a base, I would love for the series to push ahead in the timeline. After Fusion, we could pick up with Samus Aran adapting to her new part Metroid existence. With her recent run in with the Galactic Federation, I figure it's about time we saw Earth in the Metroid universe. The gameplay would be classic Super/Fusion/Zero Mission style boosted by the new 3D graphics. Earth would be spread out classic map style with the new futuristic elements giving geographic areas new exploratory flavor. (If the original Metroids were based on Aliens, picture Earth taking cues from Blade Runner.) Each area to explore would shed light on the Galactic Federations motives, for good or ill. (Just being the big bad gov'ment just doesn't jibe well with me, thus why it would be interesting to explore their reasoning behind their war on the pirates, their willingness to hire bounty hunters and well as their various science experiments such as the cloning and aurora units.) Lets see a gritty, rainy New York, a colorful futuristic Kyoto and a few other locations around the globe. Various upgrades and bosses propelling our need to explore further, and uncover every inch of the map as big as Super Metroid. All leading up to the big surprise... After Earth, you unlock two further planets to explore! Heading out using Samus' ship, you can explore either the ancient ruins of the Chozo homeworld, or the inhospitable nightmare that is the Space Pirate homeworld. Each in turn having its own set of areas, upgrades, bosses and whatnot. (And naturally, all three having areas that can only be explored with upgrades from the other two planets.) You can travel from each planet at will but can only land at certain designated areas, requiring you to uncover them all if you don't simply want to start back at the initial landing site of each area every time you visit. The fun part? some of them are hidden INSIDE other rooms. So it's not like a map room where you find it and it's there, it's more like uncovering missile upgrades by blasting a specific rock. The rooms you explore could be shifting and changing based around how you interact with them. Clearing out landing sites, opening hanger doors and so forth. The environment needs to be an evolving and changing character as much as Samus herself. The map would be the same, but one could alter the purpose of rooms, or find new ways through. The story exploring the origins of Mother Brain and her reasons for pitting the Chozo, Space Pirates and later the Galactic Federation all against one another. With Samus unlocking one final world at the end, a cyborg world, Mother Brain's end game and ideal goal. This place would take the shifting and changing nature of the worlds before to a whole new level. Forcing the player to alter huge swatches of landscape in order to proceed, the terrain shifting on it's own, and being influenced by your own actions. Basically, the idea story wise is to end the Mother Brain/Space Pirate story once and for all so that future Metroid games can go off in any bizarre universal tangent. While gameplay is the peak of the Metroid style exploration with PLENTY of environments to check out every nook and cranny.

Gyromite
Most people probably wouldn't think of Gyromite first when proposing a reboot of a classic Nintendo franchise. It probably wouldn't even appear in a top thirty. But hear me out. Gyromite is the perfect basic for Nintendo to explore more Sci-Fi/Horror worlds. The whole setup sounds like that of goddamn Half-Life when you think about it. Two scientists, Professor Hector and Professor Vector, trapped in a complex being invaded by extra dimensional reptile creatures called Smicks. Aided by a robotic companion called ROB, they attempt to survive and escape. Hell, the gate mechanic even has vague portal connotations! Take the Wii U. You could have two styles of gameplay, just like the original game. In one, you control Professor Hector, trying to escape the complex aided by ROB. You would not only need to figure out how to avoid the Smicks, but also navigate the complex and the color coded Gate system controlled by the AI ROB. The other, you could play as ROB, where you control the gates on the touch screen, trying to help Professor Hector to survive. It's got "Survival Horror/Puzzle Game" written all over it! Then you go one better and have the whole thing co-op enabled when one controls ROB and one controls Professor Hector. More so, you could switch it up a bit and deal with ROBs efforts to kill Professor Vector, the man responsible for the Smick invasion. Every Gyromite fan know the perverse glee of squishing the little guy in the gates. Take it to a whole new level with the AI trying to AVOID your efforts to outwit it and do it in.

StarTropics
Admittedly, the whole Kotaku article gave me this idea. And it's exceedingly simple. "Legend of Zelda meets God of War" the exploration and puzzles of Zelda with the combat system of God of War. TELL me you wouldn't giggle maniacally at the thought of beating the hell out of weird monsters with flashy yo-yo combos. It doesn't even have to be violent or anything, it just needs that fun sense of combat. Choosing whether you want to take on the area ahead with the yo-yo, baseball bat or what have you. All topped off with Nintendo style wimsy. Make it bright, make if goofy, but make it FUN for a hardcore game trying to pull off all manner of insane combos and astronomical hit scores. Then toss in a nighmarish alien critter or two to halt any child's sleep. Ya know, like the good old days!

Excite Championship
I'm all for another F-Zero, but why not give this Franchise a bit more love? You have a more grounded basis here than either F-Zero or Mario Kart, how about a racer taking place in the here and now, all-be it with that same Nintendo flare? Give players the option of several unique drivers with their own personalities, then give them the choice of several vehicles ranging from bikes to ATVs to Cars and up through Trucks, all having their own shortcomings and boons. Allow customization, upgrades and such but keep it more arcade style racing at its best, fast, simple and fun. ...honestly? I really just want a new Cruis'n game akin to Cruis'n USA or Cruis'n World. If I can't have that, why not have Nintendo take up that crown with the Excite series?

Legend of Zelda: Tetraforce
This is more or less what I came up with when trying to decide on something cool to do with the Zelda franchise. The idea is a game focused around the three aspects of the Triforce: Courage, Power and Wisdom. Three games in one, using the same engine but with differences to accent the focus of each aspect. The Courage segment would be a classic Legend of Zelda style game dealing with exploration and overcoming dangerous challenges. Link tries to protect the kingdom of Hyrule from the dangerous forces of Ganondorf. Sort of the classic Zelda fantasy by way of Lord of the Rings in style. The gameplay would be classic Zelda, but with more of an emphasis on blocking and dodging. Link would have an array of classic Items at his disposal giving him a variety of exploration and combat options. The Wisdom segment would be a vast change, being a sci-fi Zelda game where you play as Zelda herself. The gameplay would focus on a combination of stealth and puzzles, using your brains to overcome the enemy and save the hi-tech Hyrule. The Power segment would also be a big divergence, and easily my favorite idea of the bunch. Taking place in a Noir style world, you play as Private Investigator Ganon as he tries to overcome a dark and elderitch horror. Think zelda meets noir detective story by way of H.P. Lovecraft with magic and monsters being the highlight. The gameplay would be VERY combat heavy with Ganon overwhelming foes through force. Ganon would have an array of weaponry at his disposal to prove himself a bigger bad than the dark horrors invading the city. Of all three segments, you could play them in any order you wish, with each having a set story, cast of characters and array of bosses both old and new. THEN once you've beaten all three, you would unlock a final tale where you play as all three characters, each having the ability to use a Courage, Wisdom or Power form (mirroring their doubles in each of the three worlds) giving you not only a massive world to deal with as the three realities collide, but MULTIPLE ways to take on the new challenges of the amalgamated Hyrule. (And bringing to a close a background story running through the other three tales) I honestly have the thing worked out more than this, but I'll leave it mostly vague at this point.

So, there ya have it! I'd honestly also like a Captain N game, but as I've not worked that idea out a all, I shall not list it here. Otherwise, I think each of those ideas would be a BLAST to play! So come on Nintendo, steal the shit out of these ideas and make me some games, bringing back the classic Nintendo gaming experience!

But then, what do I know? I'm just a Geek.
