Don Mattrick, President of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft, has made a blog post with an update on Xbox One.Read More...
Here is an excerpt from his post:
…today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:I encourage you to read the entire post for additional details and how Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console — there will be no regional restrictions.
· An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.
· Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.
Thank you for your continued support of Xbox.
I... I gotta say. I'm shocked. I really didn't expect that Microsoft would change this. But I gotta hand it to them, they listened. They dug themselves a mighty big hole in the interum, but they listened. Kudos to you Microsoft.
...Oh, and to the people complaining about this already (in the comments there notably) learn the difference between innovation and a company trying to control how you use the products you purchase. And trying to turn the future of gaming into a disposable service. But I already said my peace on that madness.
The Kinect thing is still kinda wonky... And it sucks that they removed the one GOOD quality of their DRM scheme, the family share. But, that is nothing compared to the designed obsolescence and lack of legacy support. So, no more complaining from me. With this in place, I can now welcome the Xbox One with open arms. So, Xbox gamers, go get your game on!
